I Made This: Alexander Murphy, SparkPoll

Alexander Murphy, a Galvanize Denver Web Development student, began programming after finding “The C Programming Language” by Kernigan and Richie when he was 11 years old. Since then, he has acquired a BS in Information Technology, as well as 5 years of professional experience working as a programmer.

Before Galvanize, he worked primarily in PHP frameworks as a back-end programmer in the e-commerce space, developing back-end modules for Magento sites. Since starting at Galvanize, Murphy has expanded his web stack knowledge and experience.

Prior to graduation, he began building his capstone project with Swift 3, Xcode, and Apple APIs. The result is an app called SparkPoll, a tool for rapidly and anonymously polling clients around you within a certain distance. SparkPoll empowers public speakers, teachers and presenters to interact with their audience without having to type anything into their device. Murphy completed SparkPoll in time to get it on the App Store for his final capstone presentation.

“I decided that I wanted to broaden my horizons and have an environment where I can meet new people in the startup community, as well as other developer friends. That’s why I came here.”
