The Internet of Things (“IoT”) is a key investment focus for us, especially technology that makes life at home easier. We’ve invested in a number of smart home technologies and are pleased to have Keen Home as another impressive startup in the Galvanize Ventures portfolio.
Keen Home, located in New York, has developed the Smart Vent, a wireless air vent that helps consumers save on monthly energy bills by intelligently redirecting airflow through homes. With Keen Home’s technology, consumers can use their phones to control the temperature in individual rooms throughout the home. Keen Home’s product roadmap is already expanding. The company has recently begun developing the Keen Home Pump Monitor, which adds proactive intelligence to residential sump pumps and sewage pumps. Keen Home’s focus will continue to remain on outdated residential infrastructure: water softeners/heaters, window treatments, and plumbing systems are all ripe for disruption and involve little IoT competition.
You may already be familiar with Keen Home – founders Ryan Fant and Nayeem Hussain were recently featured on Shark Tank, where they secured the seventh-highest company valuation in the show’s history.
Keen Home was also recently featured on LIVE with Kelly & Michael.
Keen Home started taking Smart Vent pre-orders the day of the Shark Tank episode and has enjoyed strong demand from the market as well as sustained elevated website traffic. Keen will start delivering the Smart Vent to consumers late this summer, and you can place an order now with the company or head to Amazon.com or Lowe’s later this year where the Smart Vent will be on store shelves. Lowe’s Iris and SmartThings smart home hubs currently work with the Smart Vent – ntegration with Nest and Ecobee are on track for this fall.
