First Ever Google Demo Day

Last week was full of excitement for all things G! Galvanize, Google, and GoSpotCheck, along with other members of Google’s seven-city North American Tech Hub Network got together in Mountain View for the first ever Google Demo Day.

The Demo Day brought together ten selected startups from across North America to pitch their companies to an audience of more than 60 investors, and receive feedback from panelists, which included Steve Case (CEO of Revolution and co-founder of AOL), Steph Palmeri (SoftTech VC), and MG Siegler (Google Ventures).

GoSpotCheck, a B2B SaaS product that allows field teams to collect, structure and analyze retail intelligence, represented Galvanize at the event. “This was an amazing way to get in front of a large group of people from Silicon Valley,” said GoSpotCheck co-founder Matt Talbot. “We made so many connections. It’s hard to even quantify how many great people we met over the 2 days. This experience was tremendously valuable.”

There was no guarantee of investment for any participating companies, but it turns out no one went home empty handed. Windsor Circle (representing Raleigh/Durham’s American Underground) was announced the Judges Favorite and given the Stanley Cup of start-up world. Steve Case was impressed enough by all the contestants that he announced his spur-of-the-moment decision to personally invest $100,000 in each of the 10 companies.

“I wish someone had taken a video of us when that was announced to see all of our jaws drop,” said Samantha Holloway, co-founder of GoSpotCheck. “We were totally surprised and couldn’t be more excited to include Steve Case as an investor.”
