In school, I started off pre-med then switched to finance. I went and worked for a private investment firm, mostly taking other people’s ideas and building off that. I decided I wanted to create something of my own so I looked around for opportunities.

I had no prior coding experience. The first time I saw code, I did a basic HTML course on Codeacademy and decided I liked it. This is harder and more challenging but I appreciate that.

The learning environment here is very open, like a collective of ideas. I really like the group aspect of it. Programming is pretty much a group exercise and if you don’t know how to work in a group, especially in this environment, you’re not gonna be successful.

Since I’ve been here, I’ve taken charge. I’m coming in early every day, I stay through the end of the day. I’m doing work at home. I’ve never enjoyed learning something so much.

I’m a very analytical person. Not sure yet where I want to go but I feel like I should work on the back-end of programming. I think manipulating data and getting what you want to see on the page is a little bit cooler than how it looks.

A lot of this background has helped me understand what’s going wrong, where it’s going wrong and where to research a fix for that problem.

I’m at a crossroads here. I really like doing this and I want to get a job. At the same time, I’ve applied to law school. I may have to consider that, doing tech patent law, using this as a background. It’s still up in the air.
