Ben Brown, CEO of Howdy.ai
Ben Brown from Howdy.ai created Botkit, the most popular open-source botmaking toolkit in use today. With over 100,000 downloads by developers in 2016, Botkit will continue to play an important role in the production of bot software this year. Ben will talk about Botkit’s growth, and where he sees opportunities for developers looking to break this exciting space.
Jason Baldridge, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at People Pattern
People Pattern provides audience intelligence for major brands and agencies by applying machine learning and natural language processing to create rich profiles about individuals based on their publicly available social data. Jason will briefly cover their approach to features and modeling, including how they apply semi-supervised techniques like label propagation.
Usman Shuja, VP of Business Development at SparkCognition
Usman Shuja is Vice President of Business Development at SparkCognition, a cognitive analytics startup that is applying Artificial Intelligence to solve cyber-physical security challenges. In this role, he is responsible for developing new markets for Cognitive and AI technologies, including IBM Watson-powered applications.
Harlan Beverly, CEO of Free Beer AI
Talk Title: “Making an Actually Useful AI Company & AI Societal Impact”
Three-time Founder/CEO Harlan Beverly, CEO of FreeBeer.AI, will discuss the process of ideation, customer development, and AI development iterations for creating an “Actually Useful” AI company. Harlan will also discuss his startup FreeBeer.AI in context of AI’s potential impacts on society.
Harlan is the CEO of Free Beer AI, Inc, a consumer artificial intelligence startup in Austin, Texas. Harlan also teaches entrepreneurship at UT Austin where he is a lecturer and assistant director of Texas Venture Labs. Harlan has previously founded and sold two consumer startups (B2C): Bigfoot Networks, Inc. and Karmaback, Inc., and was CEO and sold Key Ingredient, Inc, a consumer website business. Harlan holds more than 20 patents, and is still an active developer as well as business creator. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Ohio Northern University and M.B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin, and his Ph.D. in Business from Oklahoma State.
