2016 Year in Review and Looking Ahead: Galvanize Membership

Contributions made by Adam Griffin, Director of Membership, Aaron Hohle,  Lead Membership Manager, and Manu Vasconcelos, Lead Member Success Manager.

Hello and Happy New Year,

My name is Adam Griffin, and I’m the Director of Membership for Galvanize.  Though I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting many of you, our Galvanize members, you certainly know some of my team.

The Membership Managers and Member Success Managers on each campus are the folks that bring incredible members like yourself into our community, and the ones that provide every resource at our disposal to help you succeed.

This team has worked very hard and accomplished a lot over the past year in the pursuit of building the greatest tech and entrepreneurship community in the world. I want to take a moment to share some of those highlights with you, give you an update on what we’re looking to do over the next year, and thank you for being a part of it.

2016 Recap

The Membership Manager team, the proverbial boots on the ground, are the ones responsible for impressive growth across all campuses, and they’ve done it all without wavering on the quality of members that we welcome as part of the community.

We seek to fill our campuses with companies that demonstrate our core principles and values: being integrated, driven, curious, and inclusive. Seeking this caliber of member is not an easy task, requiring thoughtful curation of people that will both benefit from the community as well as give back to it.

Some of the highlights from the past 12 months include:

  • Increasing the number of Galvanize members by over 45%
  • Opening thriving new campuses in Boulder, CO and Austin, TX
  • Laying the foundation of membership in 2 more incredibly exciting markets in Phoenix, AZ and New York, NY.

On the Member Success side, 2016 was all about connecting our members to the people, resources, and knowledge necessary to grow companies and careers. It was a year of maturing as a company into being one of the premier resources available to entrepreneurs and tech companies of all shapes and sizes.

Some of the highlights from the past 12 months include:

  • Implementing our signature Study Halls* to facilitate discussions with high-level leaders about Product, Growth, and Funding. Leaders included executives from Google Ventures, 500 Startups, MOZ, Techstars, HomeAdvisor, Yelp, and IBM to name a few.
  • Hosting nearly 1,000 member programming events (yes, 1000!), including on-campus mentor sessions, socials, workshops, and more.
  • Helping over 400 companies (420 to be exact) grow within the walls of Galvanize with Member only programming, a Mentorship Program, networking events, access to top technical talent, and more.

Looking Ahead

As the saying goes, a rising tide raises all boats. Our mission is to create that tide, rising all of the members in our community along with it. In 2017, we will continue to recruit the best possible members for each campus, and provide the most impactful resources possible to those members.

One area of resource where we have a lot of opportunity for growth over the coming 12 months is our student-member connection. By having talented and driven students on each campus, there is massive opportunity for both students and members alike to collaborate together.

From capstones and project work to mentorship and hands-on experience, by doubling down on bringing students and members together, that tide will continue to rise and provide benefit for everyone involved.

At Galvanize, we believe that collaboration and community are the best way to grow a career, a startup, and an entrepreneurial community.  Our hope is that when we bring together bright minds, a wide array of experiences, and opportunities to continue learning, amazing things can happen.

My hunch is that many of you have chosen Galvanize because you believe that too.  Our network of mentors, investors, workshop leaders, and members in each of our cities are growing stronger by the day, and they are becoming increasingly connected with each other.  In this new year, I’m challenging myself to get to know more of the students and members on our campuses, and I invite you to join me in that resolution.

We have new levels to reach, and I’m excited to see them come to fruition this year with you.  I want to personally thank you, along with my Leadership Team (Lead Membership Manager Aaron Hohle, and Lead Member Success Manager Manu Vasconcelos), for being a part of it.

Galvanize on,

Adam, Aaron, and Manu
